I started practicing yoga in 1996 to ease the stresses of work and everyday life. I soon added a daily meditation practice and discovered these practices were healing to both body and mind. I wanted to share this gift with others, so in 2001 I took a yoga teacher training course and began teaching part-time. Since then, I have become a 200-hour Registered Yoga Teacher (E-RYT) and (YACEP) through the Yoga Alliance. Over the years I have taught at a number of yoga studios in the Spokane area and have also taught private students and groups. Although my formal training is in the Ashtanga Vinyasa method, I draw from a wide range of styles to meet the varied needs of my students.
I enjoy learning and expanding my ability to help you get the most out of mind/body experiences. So, in 2022, I earned my Group Fitness Instructor certification, and in 2023 a Functional Movement Specialist certification. I enjoy the opportunity to teach other types of physical activity to balance out the yoga. I work primarily with older adults and I love making movement fun and functional for them. In 2022, I also completed a Mindfulness Coaching certification program and am excited to add mindfulness workshops and retreats to my offerings.

Monthly Restorative Yoga
I teach a Restorative Yoga class on the first Sunday of every month from 4:00-5:15 pm at Harmony Yoga Spokane. This practice is designed to restore the nervous system and help release deeply held tensions from the body and mind. We use props to support the postures, while gently stretching and strengthening the body. This class is appropriate for students of all levels.
Monthly Meditation
I facilitate a meditation practice on the first Sunday of each month at the Spokane Buddhist Temple from 9:30-10:00 prior to the weekly service. No charge, but donations to the temple are greatly appreciated. I will guide participants through basic meditation techniques. No prior experience with meditation is necessary.
Most weeks I teach additional classes at Harmony Yoga and for the YMCA at both the Central or South locations. These could be in-person or virtual, yoga or body conditioning. Follow me on Facebook for the most up-to-date weekly schedule.
The Merriam Webster Dictionary defines infusion as, “to introduce one thing into another so as to affect it throughout… infuse implies a pouring in of something that gives new life or significance.” What do you want to bring more awareness to in your daily life? Is it health? Relationships? Work/life balance? Consuming healthy amounts of news or social media? Reactions to work and family stresses?
One thing that all these aspects of life have in common is that they benefit from cultivating mindful awareness. Think you can only learn mindfulness practices by leaving your troubles behind and going away to a retreat somewhere? Think again! Whether you have a specific area in mind that you want to bring awareness and clarity to, or you’re open to experiencing whatever benefits mindfulness can bring into your life, join me for a 5 Day Mindfulness Infusion. I am offering five of these 5-day sessions throughout the year. The content will be different enough each time that a person could do one 5-day session or multiple sessions, whatever meets your needs and desires. Since these sessions will utilize the motivation of participating in a group, I will only run each session if there are a minimum of 4 or 5 participants.
Each 5-Day Session Includes:
· Group Zoom meeting on Monday evening from 6:30-7:30pm (PST) to meet your fellow participants, share thoughts, and inspire each other. I will discuss how mindfulness practices can benefit, enhance, or bring awareness to any area of your life.
· Daily emails with short mindfulness practices that you can begin to incorporate into your own life.
· Personal check-ins with me throughout the week to answer any questions and make sure your practices are benefiting you and are geared toward any mindfulness goals you have.
· Group Zoom meeting on Friday evening from 6:30-7:30pm (PST) to share, celebrate, and support each other at the end of our 5-day session. We will discuss how to continue to make space to carry these practices into your everyday lives.
(Times for zoom meetings are PST but that could change if I get a group outside of the western states. All zoom sessions will be recorded in case you are not able to attend)
Price: $45 for 5 Days of Group Coaching. That’s $9 per day.
That’s a sandwich every day for one week.
Dates:
Session One: April 8-12
Session Two: June 17-21
Session Three: August 5-9
Session Four: October 21-25
Session Five: December 9-13
If you register for one 5-day session and it gets canceled due to not having a minimum number of participants, your registration can be rolled over to the next session (or of course I’ll be happy provide a refund if you prefer).
"Karen brings calm, caring, and positive energy to the yoga practice. She spends time preparing each practice with mindfulness for the students, their needs, and their abilities. Her clear instruction, applicable examples, and fun lessons make learning from her easy and pleasant. For nine years now, I have known her to be reliable, trustworthy, and an inspiring teacher. She was one of my first teachers, and I feel I learned the basics from her well. I always enjoy learning and practicing yoga with Karen!" ~Patty D.
"Karen’s classes and videos have been extremely helpful to me. The idea of 'yoga' and all the 'poses' seemed too difficult, complicated and beyond my physical abilities. She introduced me to the muscles used in different stretches and I learned to pay attention to how my body feels. With a groundwork for correct form, I progressed and learned the actual yoga poses." ~Kristy
"These classes are a joy. Karen is an expert at adjusting the poses and stretching for any ability level. Even if I have aches before the class, I always benefit. My body is stronger and more relaxed after each session."~Victoria
"I always look forward to the weekly yoga sessions with Karen. She creates an atmosphere of relaxation and focus, then leads the group through her program. Her explanations of the postures are clear and appropriate for my age, and I have noticed that in my daily life I am moving easier. Her routines have become a valuable resource to me for dealing with stress, as well as the limitations of my aging body. I feel very fortunate to be part of Karen's group."~Marji
