Virtual Hiking/Walking
I was disappointed when I looked for virtual hiking videos to use during indoor workouts when I couldn't get outside. Some that I found online were filmed on too busy, popular trails. The filmmaker would stop and say "hi" to the other hikers, which I found distracting, and the potential solitude of the trail was disrupted by the sound of him huffing and puffing up hills. I even purchased a professional video filmed in the Swiss Alps, only to find that it appeared to have been filmed from a car driving at slow speeds up a mountain pass in the Alps. I thought, I can do better than this! These high-definition virtual hiking and walking videos are intended to be used for motivation during indoor walking and other exercise such as treadmill, stationary bicycle, stairclimber, etc. They can also be used for indoor walking meditation or simply to access nature when you can't get outside. Many of these videos have been edited and are not intended to be used for navigational or route-finding purposes. Most were filmed in the vicinity of Spokane, Washington, unless otherwise noted.
Virtual Yoga and Meditation
I'm a certified yoga teacher and mindfulness coach.
This channel started out as a way to provide home practice videos for my private yoga students when they would miss a class or I was on vacation. I am now opening it up to anyone who would benefit from accessing these practices from home. They include well-rounded basic home practices as well as a number of specialty videos dealing with ways to continue your practice through surgeries, injuries, and life. I will continue to add a variety of yoga practices and guided meditations.
These are not professionally shot videos. My intent is to make the practices unintimidating. I make a point to avoid unnecessarily revealing clothing or showing off advanced postures. I hope you enjoy and gain benefit from the practices. As with any form of movement or exercise, please consult with your physician and make sure there are no medical reasons why you should not perform some of these exercises. My aim is to make yoga as accessible as possible. Your task is to listen to your own body (your best teacher) and not move in any way that causes pain or discomfort.
I am excited to incorporate a passion for walking and the joy of writing into my existing business structure.
I've spent much of my life outdoors, enjoying both extreme adventures and everyday walks. I find my truest spiritual connection when walking in nature. From 2020 to 2023, I had the opportunity to write blogs for the mountain guide company, Peak Planet. It was such a pleasure to share my experiences and insights with their readers.
In 2020 I also self-published my first book about the joy of walking. I'm currently writing my next book, Everyday Walks!
Just Walking: A Memoir on Two Feet
By Karen Vielle
Part adventure travel log and part love letter to the joys of walking, this autobiographical book is set around the author’s trek of the West Highland Way in Scotland with her twin sister. The story uses the simple act of walking to discover a sense of grounding during the ordinary dramas of mid-life, including dealing with the loss of parents and disenchantment with career life. The book shares insights from several other adventurous hikes, but always returns to the everyday pleasures of Just Walking.
Available on Amazon in both paperback and e-reader
Reviews for Just WalkingTeezboy 5.0 out of 5 stars More than "Just" Walking Most travel authors write "about" the journey, the places they visit, and the people they meet. Karen Vielle's soul so absorbs all three that she becomes the ultimate participant in rather than observer of whatever culture she encounters. Just Walking is obviously a metaphor of her own life; the "Just" a humble appellation belying the depth of her connection to the world around her and the pleasure she takes in relating to it. Her narration teaches us that the simple act of walking (living) can have profound consequences in our own lives if we only live in and appreciate each moment. Vielle does not immerse us in complicated, long-winded descriptions, but rather communicates her observations and reactions in a writing style that allows us to share each moment and move on much the same as she did in each of her adventures. A lifetime of walks and climbs is gently intertwined in her narrative of the main journey of this book. It is a fast-paced, heartfelt, delightful book that will be easily savored by its readers.

Nothing but beach and sky with the sounds of wind and surf.
An urban walking path in the fall with the pitter patter of a light rain and the crunch of leaves under foot.
